Green Sketching - Queen Elizabeth Country Park / Friday 17th October 2025, 10-12pm

£35.00

Join me (Claire) for two hours at Queen Elizabeth Country Park to discover the joy of taking time to really notice our natural world. Learn how simple drawing activities can turn a walk in the countryside into a magical world of wonder, noticing and slowing down, benefitting our mental health and bringing calm to our busy lives.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park is a huge and spectacular wooded site, conveniently located just off the A3. We will be based up the hill at the Juniper carpark, where the beech trees should be turning a spectacular golden colour for us. We won’t be walking too far, just exploring the area at the top of the hill, enjoying the shades of autumn and hopefully finding some funghi too. We can shelter under the pizza cooking area if needed, and there are benches and logs to sit on.

Through guided activities we will take a slow approach to noticing our natural environment, and use a pencil to enhance our observations. Taking the time to draw simple natural shapes or do some nature doodles gives our minds time to slow down, and focus on something immediate and simple.

This focus on the process of drawing (rather than the finished result) means that everyone, regardless of previous drawing experience, can benefit from the joy of Green Sketching. Absolute beginners very much encouraged… and don’t worry, we won’t be sharing or comparing our drawings!

All materials provided, participants just need drinks/snacks and appropriate footwear and clothing for being outside. There will be short stretches of walking as part of the workshop.

Workshops details -

We will meet at Juniper car park at QECP at 10am, near the building with the toilets in. Enter the main site and keep driving through the main carpark, following signs for Juniper. Please allow an extra 5 minutes for this! After a brief introduction, we will do some nature spotting and simple drawing activities in the in this area. The session will finish at 12pm.

All materials are provided as part of your fee. You will be given your own pocket sketchbook to use and take away with you, as well as a handy Green Sketching guide. All other materials will be for use in the workshop. Just bring yourself, a drink and any snacks you might want.

Please come prepared to be outdoors. Sturdy footwear is essential, and if it’s cold or wet, wear a coat and enough layers to stay warm while sitting down. If it’s sunny, please bring suncream and a hat. The workshop will be cancelled and full refund given if high winds or heavy rain is forecast.

There will be some walking on uneven surfaces (stones, roots, slight inclines) and either standing or sitting on logs/the ground for drawing. If you wish, you could bring a mat or small folding chair to sit on but this is not essential.

Participants must be over 18 years, or 14-17 years with an accompanying adult (you both need fully paid tickets). No dogs please.

There are toilets at Juniper car park (we will always be in striking distance of them!) and a cafe back at the main carpark.
