Green Sketching - The Trundle, Chichester / Friday 20th June 2025, 10-12pm
Join me (Claire) for two hours up at the beautiful Trundle to celebrate the Summer Solstice. Learn how simple drawing activities can turn a walk into a magical world of wonder, noticing and slowing down, benefitting our mental health and bringing calm to our busy lives.
The Trundle is such a local beauty spot, looking all the way out to sea over the rolling hills, it seems the right place to mark the longest day of the year. We will explore the top of the hill, looking and noticing the different flowers, plants and insects at the height of summer with our pencils. And of course, take in the wonderful view!
Through guided activities we will take a slow approach to noticing our natural environment, and use a pencil to enhance our observations. Taking the time to draw simple natural shapes or do some nature doodles gives our minds time to slow down, and focus on something immediate and simple.
This focus on the process of drawing (rather than the finished result) means that everyone, regardless of previous drawing experience, can benefit from the joy of Green Sketching. Absolute beginners very much encouraged… and don’t worry, we won’t be sharing or comparing our drawings!
All materials provided, participants just need drinks/snacks and appropriate footwear and clothing for being outside. There will be short stretches of walking as part of the workshop.

Workshops details -
We will meet by the T Box coffee truck at the Trundle Car Park at 10am. After a brief introduction, we will explore the wildlife around the top of this magnificent hill by doing some simple drawing activities. We will do some short bits of walking, but mostly we will stay in the area between the wooded arboretum and the car park. Plenty of time to sit and soak in the view! The session will finish at 12pm.
All materials are provided as part of your fee. You will be given your own pocket sketchbook to use and take away with you, as well as a handy Green Sketching guide. All other materials will be for use in the workshop. Just bring yourself, a drink and any snacks you might want.
Please come prepared to be outdoors. Sturdy footwear is essential, and if it’s cold or wet, wear a coat and enough layers to stay warm while sitting down. If it’s sunny, please bring suncream and a hat.
There will be some walking on uneven surfaces (stones, roots, slight inclines) and either standing or sitting on logs/the ground for drawing. If you wish, you could bring a mat or something to sit on but this is not essential.
Participants must be over 18 years, or 14-17 years with an accompanying adult (you both need fully paid tickets). No dogs please.
There are no toilets at this location, but the T Box coffee truck should be open at 10am for refreshments (please note I cannot guarantee this!)
When you book I will ask you to let me know of any mobility or health issues, and also an emergency name and contact number. Please make sure this is all accurate, just send me a quick email if there is anything else you need to tell me.
Please read the full terms and conditions - by booking this workshop, you are agreeing to these terms.
And just get in touch if you have any questions about accessibility, location or what to expect from the workshop!
Location -
This workshop is easiest accessed with a car, by driving to the Trundle Car Park - turn down the small lane by the gated house on the hard bend on Town Lane, it’s not signposted! See photo with map reference. There is plenty of parking in the car park here. We will meet by the T Box coffee truck. The number 60 bus stops down in West Dean/Singleton if you fancy the hike up the hill to the top. Or you can walk up Chalkpit Lane from East Lavant, or take the Monarch’s Way path from Mid Lavant (please allow plenty of time if you are doing these walks though, they are all fairly lengthy!).
